Tramain Thomas Scouting Report |
Tramain Thomas - Arkansas (HT: 5-11¾ - WT: 192) |
Positives -- Good size for a safety at the NFL level... Has the skill set to play man coverage when needed, looks better in off man coverage; does well when the football is in the air, is able to create impact plays in coverage... Transitions well out of his backpedal to turn and run with receivers; can also
flip his hips and reach top speed quickly, always looks under control... Has the speed to run with receivers, good overall athleticism and flashes some natural ability, makes it look easy at times... Ran a 4.51-40 and recorded a 38.5" vertical jump at Arkansas' pro day, would have been the second best 40-time among safeties at the combine... Shows some good instincts when playing the middle of the field, has a quick burst when reading... Attacks with a purpose from the secondary, not afraid to put his nose in the pile... When he sees an alley to the ball carrier, he does a good job of accelerating through it... Looks capable of playing any position in the secondary at the next level... Was named second-team All-SEC by the Associated Press in 2010 and earned honorable mention honors the following season.
Negatives -- An arm tackler, needs to show better tackling technique coming up from the secondary... Will over-pursue and fail to break down against shiftier runners, plays out of control at times... Lacks overall strength, has the tendency to hold on when tackling until help comes; this lack of strength can also leads to missed tackles, far too many as the last line of defense... Gets blocked too easily, and has trouble getting off blocks... Lack of physicality is an issue, but could make up for it by showing scouts his speed and coverage abilities.
