The Top Ten Big East Story Lines for 2004

4. West Virginia: The Mountain Cossroads

Over the past few years, West Virginia could have been called the RBU of the mountain region, with two straight All-Conference RBs in Avon Cobourne and Quincy Wilson. Both probably some of the best in school history. One would expect that they could plug in the next guy and keep they’re basic system, and they have the RB for it in the often hyped Kay-Jay Harris; but this is not the case. You listen to WVU fans and staff and all they talk about is the development of one time Big East Offensive Rookie of the Year, wide receiver Chris Henry, and how he is going to take the league by storm this year with the help of QB Rasheed Marshall. Henry has the size, 6-4 200, and physical tools to be dominant, and was able to put up 1000+ yards and 10 TDs on only 41 receptions, so getting him a far bigger workload is one of the major plans for the offense. Probably the biggest question will be how Rasheed handles being more of a pocket passer, even though forcing him into a spot where he is unable to use his athleticism would be a massive waste of his greatest weapon. Whether or not they can make the adjustment will probably mean whether or not they win the conference.
