Former Sooner QB Rhett Bomar ready for relaunch

As Rhett Bomar walked out of Ladd-Peebles Stadium after Senior Bowl practice Thursday, a fan stopped him for an autograph.

Sure, why not, right? But the fan wanted Bomar to sign a picture of him playing in an Oklahoma Sooners uniform. With Bomar still carrying the wounds of his dismissal from the Sooners, he declined to sign it and said it was because he no longer plays there.

Bomar, who finished his college career with two seasons at Sam Houston State, was exiled from Norman in 2006 because of a summer job scandal that rocked the program and derailed his promising career.

“I don’t know that we’ll ever be over it totally because of what he missed out on,” said Bomar’s father, Jerry, who coached his son at Grand Prairie High School. “It was very devastating because everything was going just as we had planned.” Continue Reading
