Two San Jose State stars could go in first round

San Jose State isn’t known for having a pipeline to the NFL but that may change this year. Two former stars are increasing their value and right now are borderline first rounders. Defensive end Jarron Gilbert and cornerback Coye Francies put on good showings at the Senior Bowl last week.

Gilbert is a 3-4 defensive end or possibly a 4-3 defensive tackle. At 6′5″, 285 lbs., he has showed that he possesses incredible intangibles on the defensive line. He is a leader on and off the field. He stays on his feet and plays with a low center of gravity. Gilbert’s 22 tackles for a loss were the best in college football as well.

Coye Francies is 6′1″, 185 lbs. He has the ideal size and speed one looks for in a cornerback. His coverage skills are above average but he poses as a double threat since he averaged more than 22 yards per punt return. Francies is also a sure tackler.

Both Gilbert and Francies will likely go in the second round but good showings at the NFL Combine will likely put them in the first round, especially with Gilbert as he is a multi-dimensional lineman with more upside than LSU’s Tyson Jackson & Auburn’s Sen’Derrick Marks.
