From the Sidelines: 4/14/09 Draft Notes

The Cleveland Browns’ brass has stated publicly that the franchise is sitting on first round trade offers for QB Brady Quinn and WR Braylon Edwards as well as the fact that they are “sold” on Michael Crabtree (WR #1). This could be a tricky smokescreen though.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been busy with scheduled visits according to sources. Kenny McKinley (WR #11), Sean Smith (CB #6), Seth Olsen (OG #13), Gerald Cadogan (OT #13), and David Veikune (DE #10) have all had visits or are scheduled for visits with Philadelphia.

Former Alabama OT Andre Smith (OT #8) has reportedly fired his agent. Smith’s tumultuous pre-NFL career has been fun to watch to say the least and we doubt that his stock will fall as far as it actually should on draft day.

The Redskins will host Rey Maualuga (ILB #1). He is scheduled for a private workout but in our opinion would be a reach at 13 where the Redskins pick in the first round.

Dallas has worked out several local prospects including former Baylor standout Thomas White (WR #UR), Rhett Bomar (QB #6), and Chase Daniel (QB #UR).

We did a little research and since 1998 eleven underclassmen quarterbacks have been drafted but only three remain starters in the NFL — Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, JaMarcus Russell. The odds of success are heavily stacked against Matt Stafford (QB #2), Mark Sanchez (QB #1), Josh Freeman (QB #3), and Nate Davis (QB #7).

The Detroit Lions will unveil their new logo, as well as minor uniform changes next week. We have heard from our sources that the logo variation will not be much different from the animal cracker-like design they use now.
