2009 NFL Draft Preview
Apr 25th, 2009 | By Pete Dymeck | Category: FeaturedWell, reports are flying in that the Chiefs are enamored with former LSU DE Tyson Jackson and that they will select him third overall. This could be a smoke screen but our requests have generated genuine feedback which say it is “very likely.”
We know in our last mock draft of 2009, we have Jackson landing with Denver and we will not redo our mock draft as we do not believe in mulligans but every other media outlet in the nation did not have Jackson cracking the top 8 until this morning. Instead of jumping overboard to face the sharks and edit out mock draft, we will stand pat and face what lies before us as this is expected to become one of the most surprising and shocking NFL Drafts we have ever seen.
Former Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree could slide into the ‘teens, according to numerous sources.
The Oakland Raiders are reportedly “dead set” on drafting WR Darrius Heyward-Bey out of Maryland seventh overall. This could be another “dandy” for Uncle Al Davis, that’s for sure.
Don’t expect to see the Washington Redskins trade their 2010 first round pick to move up and acquire QB Mark Sanchez.
Former Oregon CB Jairus Byrd finally worked out for scouts. He is by no means considered a safety prospect. As a strictly cornerback prospect, as he is nothing more or nothing less, Byrd disappointed by running a 4.69 forty on field turf. As we expected, his stock will continue to slide, as he was reluctant to work out for scouts under the guise of an injury and when he finally did, right before the draft, he ran a terrible forty time.
The Philadelphia Eagles inquired about TE Tony Scheffler of the Denver Broncos. We are not sure what to make of this but if Scheffler, one of Jay Cutler’s old pals, throws a tirade like Cutler did, we will not know what to think.
Also, the Philadelphia Eagles are talking trade with another AFC West team, this time the Oakland Raiders. They are reportedly interested in bringing DE Derrick Burgess back to Philadelphia.
The Dallas Cowboys are lining up talks with Carolina about a possible trade for DE/OLB Julius Peppers.
The New York Jets are interested in trading up to grab QB Mark Sanchez.
