Former Badger LB works out

Posted by Administrator On April - 4 - 2009

Former UW linebacker DeAndre Levy worked out for about eight NFL teams inside the McClain Center on Thursday morning.

He suffered a pulled hamstring at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, where he was only able to do the broad jump. He also wasn’t healthy enough to compete at UW’s Pro Timing Day about a month ago.

So, it was a big relief to Levy, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds flat and had a vertical jump of about 35 1/2 inches.

Levy said he ran in the mid- to high-4.4 range during recent workouts and was hoping to duplicate that, but he was content with his time.

“A couple weeks ago, I put up a little bit better numbers (in training),” he said. “So I was a little disappointed. But (the scouts) were like, `Why are you disappointed? These numbers are good.’ If they were happy with it, I can’t complain at all.”

Former UW linebacker Jonathan Casillas, who was also expected to work out, was unable to, apparently due to a hamstring injury.

Shrine Game moving

Posted by Administrator On April - 3 - 2009

The East-West Shrine Game, college football’s longest running all-star game, will be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in 2010.

Florida Citrus Sports announced Wednesday that Orlando will be home to the Shrine Game for at least the next two years.

The game got its start in the San Francisco Bay area in 1925, and was played there for 80 years.

A lag in ticket sales and interest in the game from San Francisco officials, as well as a desire to have the game more centrally located, prompted a move to the Alamodome in San Antonio for the 2006 game.
