Mikell Simpson Interview
By: Scott Porter
May 23, 2009
Scott Porter: What are your goals for the season?
Mikell Simpson: To have my best season, rushing and catching, whatever it takes to help us win every game.

Scott Porter: What are your biggest strengths?
Mikell Simpson: I feel like my speed is my key, almost being able to catch the ball out of the backfield, I have good vision, and I'm good at avoiding taking a lot of hits.

Scott Porter: Is there a player in the NFL that reminds you of yourself?
Mikell Simpson: I kind of look at myself as a Reggie Bush type of player, because he is very fast and great in open space, and you can move him around different spots to create mismatches.

Scott Porter: What is the toughest part about playing running back?
Mikell Simpson: I would have to stay having your body take a pounding every game.

Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?
Mikell Simpson: Hopefully I can stay healthy and have a chance to play at that level, but if I do make it to the NFL, my only goal I would have right now is the try to get some playing time.

Scott Porter: What kind of a player is an NFL team getting in you?
Mikell Simpson: They will be getting a running back that has speed and good vision, and can be moved around a lot to create mismatches. I would also say that I pick up on things taught very quickly.

Scott Porter: Who has been your biggest influence?
Mikell Simpson: I would have to say Brandon Albert, because we are so close and he was drafted first round, and played a year in the league now, so he tells me all about how the NFL works and what to expect, and just knowing and seeing how hard it took for him to get where he is rubs off on me.

Scott Porter: How has playing alongside a good RB like Cedric Peerman helped you grow?
Mikell Simpson: Cedric was a great player and leader, and I learned alot from him. He is a person who prepared great for everything he does, so just learning how to take care of my body, film study, work hard in the weight room and lead my team is things I paid most attention to from him.

Scott Porter: What are your hobbies off the field?
Mikell Simpson: I love to listen to music all day. I do not watch TV unless a game is on. I play video games with my teammates.

(September 21, GBNReport.com) -- Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore RB Ryan Williams is questionable at best for Saturdays conference opener against Boston College after he injured a hamstring in last weekends win over East Carolina. The injury is not believed to be serious even though Williams had to be helped off the field and spent the second half on crutches, however, he has practiced on a limited basis this week.
