D'Anton Lynn Scouting Report |
D'Anton Lynn - Penn State (HT: 5-11⅞ - WT: 206) |
Positives -- Good frame with solid bulk, a good looking physical specimen... Can play in press or zone coverage, can get a jam off the line, but looks best in zone coverage, especially off the line of scrimmage; in zone, he takes advantage of seeing the field, and has the ability to play quicker... Has good
anticipation skills, has some read and react ability and is able to use his long frame to make plays on the football in the air... Will also get some looks as a strong safety, is at his best looking toward the line of scrimmage... If he stays at cornerback, would be best suited in a Cover-2 scheme, where he can stay on the outside and be covered over the top... Plays smart, understands what he can do on the football field, stays within his boundary... NFL bloodlines, father Anthony is a former running back and current assistant coach for the New York Jets.
Negatives -- Speed is a big question mark, ran a 4.77-40 at the combine, wide receivers can get behind him for the big play... However, worked out at the combine with a torn calf muscle that now will sideline him through early-April at the earliest, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter... Hips are a bit stiff which creates issues playing in man coverage, also struggles when needed to change direction out of his breaks... Doesn't high point the ball consistently in pass coverage... Allows too much separation for wide receivers to work... Will whiff on some tackle attempts, needs to improve there, especially if he's moved to safety... Despite his size, he plays softer than you would expect; needs to play with more physicality against NFL competition.
