Troy Woolfolk Scouting Report |
Troy Woolfolk - Michigan (HT: 5-11 - WT: 195) |
Positives -- Can play cornerback or safety, played both positions at Michigan; good size for either position, looks the part... Has good overall athletic ability, was also a member of the Wolverines track and field team early in his collegiate career... When playing Cover-2, does a nice job reading and
reacting, especially from the safety position... Plays better when his eyes are toward the action... Understands pursuit angles and will get to the football; a nice wrap up tackler, does a good job playing under control when zeroing in on the ball carrier... Durability is an issue but he played through several nagging injuries as a senior, was a defensive leader for his team and his contributions didn't show on the box score... Can contribute on special teams, made plenty of tackles on kick and punt coverage... Played in 45 career games and made 23 starts with the Wolverines.
Negatives -- Below average ball skills, only deflected five passes and recorded zero interceptions in his collegiate career... Choppy footwork; will get off balance out of his breaks and end up in non athletic positions... Turning and running is not one of his strong suits, has tight hips and has trouble covering faster wide receivers... Lacks range from either position, doesn't have the quickness to plant and get sideline to sideline to make plays consistently... Takes more steps than you would like to get to top-end speed, acceleration is an issue... Lacks the playmaking ability that is expected out of NFL secondary players... Not as physical as a safety should be, needs to drive through ball carriers more consistently when tackling... Will need to find a spot on a roster as a special teams contributor, is considered too slow for a cornerback and not physical enough for a safety in the NFL... Dislocated right ankle and broken fibula sidelined him for his senior year in 2010, received a medical redshirt and will need to check out medically.
