Delano Howell Scouting Report |
Delano Howell - Stanford (HT: 5-10⅞ - WT: 210) |
Positives -- A little undersized but plays much bigger... Athletic safety with above average coverage skills despite his lack of elite speed... Skilled at diagnosing plays and coverages, has the qualities to be a good field general... Has good instincts and does not hesitate to act on them... Good tackler with
the ability to level punishing hits... Injury history is nothing to worry that much about... Good character player with no off field issues to be concerned about... Solid starter in the competitive Pac-12, has proven he can play against elite competition. Negatives -- Not an intercepting ball hawk that will frighten quarterbacks... Lacks elite speed (ran a 4.64-40 at the combine) and overall physical tools... Tends to tuck his head and throw his shoulder into tackles rather than wrapping up... Does not possess very fluid hips and is slow when it comes to changing directions... Can get caught staring in the backfield at times... Needs more work on a faster first step to compensate for the lack of top end speed... Struggled with the speed of the college game at times which will lead to a short NFL career if he does not improve... Struggled with a hand injury this past season... Overall, appears to be a good college player who lacks the elite talent to succeed in the NFL.
