Opening Statement: This week has been real exciting to play with some of the best players in the country. Great coaches, feel like our defense is doing well and having fun out there, playing fast and I'm excited for tomorrow.
On ending the season with a bowl win: It was a great feeling, to go through tough seasons in my first two seasons, and end on a note like that -- winning the last four in a row, beating Nebraska, who had beat us early on in the season. Now I just want to keep things going, get better and have fun here. Coach Holt (defensive coordinator) had a great scheme, we practiced hard all bowl season, through December, and we knew where we made our mistakes that first game. We wanted to come out and play aggressive, hit them in the mouth and see what happens. We knew they would get their shots, but we kept going back and forth and we out-lasted them.
On his style of play: I feel like I play with a lot of passion, will do whatever it takes to help my team win. If that means getting the sack or dropping into coverage and making a big play, I flow well sideline to sideline and that's a big part of my game.
On what he wants to improve this week: Dropping into coverage, getting back quick, breaking fast, we're working on everything, getting better as a linebacker as a whole. Using my hands, taking on linemen, taking correct angles into the line of scrimmage, and I feel like even in two days I've gotten a lot better. I did drop some at Washington, I played defensive end also, but that's something that you have to fine-tune in your game before you get to the NFL. Just trying to get smarter and better and taking in coaching while I can.
On off-season training: I'm at the API (Athletes Performance Institute) in Los Angeles. I work every Tuesday and Thursday for two hours with Willie McGinest, working on pass rush moves and learning little things about the game. He was a great linebacker in the league for a long time, I've been working with him on every part of the game (mental, physical) and just trying to get better. This week he told me just have fun and enjoy the process, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, enjoy the players around you and just have fun with it.
